Tom and Jerry

Tom and Jerry

This is a tune I learned from the late great fiddler Byron Berline. It is in the Texas-Oklahoma style and is a fiddle contest competition piece. In Texas-Oklahoma style fiddling, the theme of the tune is played and then fiddlers would jam together and play improvised “variations” using guitar back-up progressions like 1-6-2-5-1 sometimes referred to as a “Texas Go Around.” This song was on an album released in 1965 called “Pickin’ and Fiddlin” with Berline and the Dillards.
